While we all know that Shiloh is home to many horses, we are also home to multiple feral cats- these cats wander the rescue at night and mostly hide under our various buildings during the day. Some of the cats are spayed or neutered- but, unfortunately we do have some cats who came over to Shiloh from neighboring ranches who are not fixed. These cats give birth to multiple litters of kittens- some of whom now are grown and wander the rescue. Sadly, some of the ranch dogs will catch kittens from time to time- it is horrible when this happens and we all stress out anytime we see or hear new litters. We have caught some kittens and have found homes for them- but the cats just keep multiplying! Being a rescue, we know all too well about not having animals fixed and we feel horrible that his happens at Shiloh.
The older cats are so wild that we are not able to catch them- so we have arranged to trap them and get them fixed before turning them back out at the ranch. Of course, this will be easier said than done...
So, The Great Cat Trap has begun...
Donna baits the traps...
A trap- they have spring loaded doors and we baited them with tuna...
They are placed in the areas that we know the cats like to hang out at...
They love to be in this area under the Dog Office...
Our first success! A very angry large male!
Loaded in the car and headed into town. Two cats were caught tonight. The Cat Trap continues...
Big thanks to Donna and Antonisha who arranged the trapping through C5 Feral Cat Rescue. C5 is taking care of the spaying and neutering along with Heaven Can Wait. Thank you all!
