Leone Soars to Win on Wayfarer, The Future is Bright at Lionshare Farm

Olympic Silver Medalist, Peter Leone and Lionshare Farm’s Wayfarer rode a faultless first round, along with nine others, in the $1500 Adequan Six Year Old Young Jumper Qualifier. The fastest clean jump off at 37.05 edged out second place Jeffery Welles and Bilion with 37.26 to put Wayfarer and Leone on top to earn the win.

Wayfarer has a pet name dubbed by Peter Leone. “I don’t have the nameplate yet, but I plan to get it,” shared Leone. “The Future” is the name Leone dubbed the gifted young jumper. He was inspired by basketball great Allen Iverson’s nickname, “The Answer.”

“He is so strong and talented, he just canters over the jumps. We all can’t wait to see what “The Future” brings,” beamed Leone about the homebred gelding.
Wayfarer is by Languster, a Danish Warmblood stallion out of a Holsteiner mare, Angel.

Speaking of the future, It was also a winning week in the ponies at Lionshare Farm. Isabella Russekoff showed Time to Talk (Timmy) to the championship in the Laura Hanson Large Children’s Hunter Pony. The pair has been together only three weeks.

According to eleven-year-old Russekoff, “We were second the first day, so we were good the first day. In the flat we kind of got fast. The second day we were really good in our first class and okay in our second.”

Lionshare Farm trainer, Elizabeth Pandich, who has worked with Russekoff since she was eight shared, “Isabella is competitive but she’s wise beyond her years. It’s a very good match. He’s lovely and they get along really well.”
