The Cutest New Arrival Ever...

Meet our newest member of the Shiloh Family! A week old Mini filly! Felipe had a huge grin on his face when he opened the trailer door...

This little girl came to Shiloh after her previous owner was unable to continue needed vet care on her. She originally was brought into the vet clinic by her owner in an almost comatose state with a meconium impaction (Meconium is the first "manure" that is passed by a foal after birth). She was treated and eventually went home but failed to thrive. Her owner needed to place her into a new home quickly or she was to be euthanised. So, we had her brought back into the clinic where she was treated for the past three days and today she arrived at Shiloh. Her previous owner loaned us the mare as well until the filly can be weaned, when the mother will then return back to her owner.
Ed and Sally welcomed her to the ranch...
She is a little partial Medicine Hat paint with two blue eyes. The Medicine Hat marking (the "war bonnet" of brown on her poll and ears) was highly prized by Native Americans who believed these horses held special powers and protection in battle.
Little girl and her mom, Whitey.
She is such a cutie!
We are watching her closely to make sure she is nursing, etc. So far, she is spunky and seems strong for her size.
Whitey is a very good mom and is very protective of her baby...
But the little girl was feeling good and made her mom work to keep up with her!
Feeling frisky! You can see the shaved area on her neck where she had a catheter for administering fluids.
We also have to make sure she stays cool in the 100 plus heat we are having. We soaked this dog shirt in cold water to keep her cool. She looked very dapper!
As we have all been mourning the recent loss of our beloved little Dwarf Mini, Daisy- I really do think it was meant to be that we were able to bring this little one i! nto the rescue at this time. Life can be very amazing, and rewarding, that way...
